Connections to Holden

I can connect to Holden in a lot of different ways, even though we are totally different. First, I can connect to Holden about the loss of a sibling. When i was 9, I lost my infant brother Satchel. At first it was a hard thing to understand since I was so young, but I learned more about it as I got older. Also, my parents did a good job of explaining the situation to my sister and I, and not withholding any information because of our age.
Next, I can connect to Holden because he still has his brothers baseball glove. My dad chose to name my little brother Satchel after his favorite baseball player, Satchel Page. So after my brother died, my dad watched a baseball game with his first son in the hospital. Since he always wanted to share his love of baseball with his son, he got Satchel a baseball glove, even though Satchel would never get to use it. The glove now sits in a case at my dads house as a memorial to Satchel. It has sentimental value, just as Allie's glove does to Holden.
The last thing I connected to Holden on was not a personal connection. When I was reading about Holden and his school work it completely reminded me of Billy. The way that Holden wrote his essay about the ancient Egyptians totally reminded me of something Billy would do.

  2. Two good connections, not good that they happened to you or your family, but good that you shared them with us. Nicely written and nicely said. Good post.
